Keio University Law School (KLS) submitted an application to the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) to launch a new Master of Laws (LL.M.) program in Global Legal Practice beginning April 2017. The application was approved on August 31. The new program will permit a select number of students to obtain an LL.M degree in one year, with instruction entirely in English, and is the first of its kind offered at a law school in Japan. KLS also has an existing Juris Doctor (J.D.) program.

慶應義塾大学大学院法務研究科（法科大学院）は、2017年4月に、現在の「法務 専攻（法務博士）」に併設して、「グローバル法務専攻（法務修士）」を設置す るべく文部科学省に申請し、本日、大学設置・学校法人審議会からの答申を受 け、8月31日に設置認可となりました。法科大学院に併設される専門職大学院と しては、全国初の専攻となります。英語を使用言語として1年間で「法務修士 （LL.M.）」の学位取得が可能です。

The LL.M. program welcomes lawyers who aspire to work globally and legal staff of global corporations and international institutions. It also welcomes Japanese lawyers and law school graduates who wish to improve their practical skills using English, international students who are interested in Japan and Asia, and university graduates who wish to work in an international institution in the future. KLS plans to enter into double degree programs with partner institutions in other countries, including the United States, which will allow participating students to earn an LL.M. from the partner institution in addition to their degree from KLS as part of a single, integrated course of study.

本専攻は、グローバル・フィールドで活躍できる法曹およびグローバル企業・国 際機関のリーガル・スタッフを養成することをねらいとしています。主に英語に よる実務能力の向上を希望する弁護士・法科大学院修了生と、日本やアジアに興 味を持つ海外からの留学生を受け入れ、さらに、将来国際機関で働くことを希望 する学部卒業生にも門戸を開きます。また、ダブルディグリー制度を活用して、 アメリカをはじめとする海外提携ロースクールにおけるLL.M.の取得や海外にお ける法曹資格の取得も視野に入れたカリキュラムを整備する予定です。
