*Mr. Kayser graduated from the LL.M. program in Global Legal Practice and received a Certificate in International Dispute Resolution in March 2025.
How did you find out about the LLM program, and what attracted you to pursue it?
Since I had already worked in Tokyo, I was keen to complete my LL.M. in Japan. Through my internet research, I came across the LL.M. program at Keio University Law School. This program appealed to me immediately because of the interesting lecture content and the opportunity to specialize. I also heard from fellow lawyers about the excellent reputation of Keio University in Japan and worldwide.
Please tell us about your most memorable class, along with the reason why.
I particularly liked the practical training lectures. The practical training lecture "Mediation" by Lecturer MIYATAKE Masako and Lecturer KAMIYA Tomohiko was my favorite lecture: After the theoretical introduction to mediation, we quickly moved on to practical exercises, allowing students to practice as mediators. In this way, the knowledge acquired could be put into practice directly, and through repeated exercises, a feeling of familiarity with the role of mediator could be gained.
What do you enjoy about life at Keio?
I really enjoyed student life at Keio University: it was very interesting to study and interact with many international students from all over the world. The Mita campus is a perfect place to study and make new friends: the campus has two libraries (one general and one separate for the Law School). The Mita campus also has two - really good - cafeterias, two cafés, a convenience store, and a bookstore, among other things. Furthermore, the Mita campus is centrally located, close to Tokyo Tower, and easily accessible by public transport.
What are your plans after you finish your studies at Keio? What do you think you will take with you from this experience?
After returning to Germany, I plan to work as a lawyer or in-house counsel at an international law firm or company. After a few years of practice in Germany, I would like to return to Tokyo and build on the experience I gained during the LL.M. program. The skills I acquired at Keio University Law School will be invaluable in this regard.
Any advice for prospective LLM students? How would you recommend the Keio LLM program to the students?
I strongly recommend that anyone interested in pursuing an LL.M. consider the program at Keio University Law School. The LL.M. program offers a wide range of topics, the lectures are international and comparative in nature and deal with current technological and political challenges. The professors are friendly and highly motivated and know how to create a pleasant learning atmosphere. This makes the LL.M. program at Keio University Law School a unique experience that will give everyone a boost in their legal career.
