Keio University Law School announces Certificates in Business Law, International Dispute Resolution, and Japanese Law within the LL.M. in Global Legal Practice

2017.12.12

Keio University Law School(KLS) launched its Master of Laws(LL.M.) in Global Legal Practice in April 2017.

Beginning with the 2018 academic year, in order to recognize the depth of programs available to students in several areas, the Dean of KLS will award certificates to graduating LL.M. students who have focused their studies in a particular area.

From academic year 2018, certificates will be available in

 • Business Law,

 • International Dispute Resolution, and

 • Japanese Law.

According to the Director of the LL.M. in Global Legal Practice program, Professor Hajime Yamamoto, "by demonstrating that student focused his or her study in a particular area of specialization, we hope the certificate system will make the Keio LL.M. an even more attractive credential. We believe the certificate system will help us to meet the needs of our students, as well as their future clients and employers."

The LL.M. in Global Legal Practice requires at least 30 course credits to graduate. A certificate will require satisfactory completion of at least 10 credits in the relevant field, as well as 2-credit research paper. For the certificates in Business Law and International Dispute Resolution, at least one related 2-credit practical training class must be included. As the course requirements set forth a minimum only, and a certificate is intended to evidence a significant degree of focus and specialization, a student may apply for a certificate in only a single area of specialization.
